As we all know winter weather is almost here. Make sure that you check school closings for any cancelations of school/afterschool events. Here are a list of the best spots to check.
There are five City of Buffalo Co-ed modified meets on consecutive Saturdays starting Feb 28th and each Saturday in March. One official will be assigned to each meet. The rate is $96 +$2 per extra heat. If you are interested and available for any of those Saturdays, email Doug ASAP. He will assign first come, first serve. All meets are at City Honors.
Championships have not been assigned yet, so it would help to know your availability beginning with the ECIC Championship: Diving @ Maryvale on the Jan 29th and swimming (2 sessions) @ Sweet Home on the Jan 31st. Please e-mail Doug Cassidy with your availability.
The 500 freestyle warning- So the NFHS rule book still indicates that the starter is responsible for "ensuring that a warning is sounded...yada, yada, yada" As many of us have realized ,as we no longer use a pistol warning, there is little or no reason for the referee and starter to switch positions with the ref at the turn end throughout the race. It has become common practice (in fact, BEST practice for the referee to stay at the starting end and provide the warning bell/horn, whistle). It is the PEROGATIVE OF THE FREFEREE to determine how the warning will be given. It is recommended that all officials carry with them a warning device.
At the 2025 annual reorganizational meeting, Mr. Doug Cassidy and Mr. Mike Pucser pesented June Mundt with the NYSCSOA's Distinguised Service Award for 2025. June's years of hard work, dedication, and continued commitment to the sport of swimming and diving made her and excelent choice for this amazing honor. Congratulations June!
